JUNE 2009 Class Offerings

BODY SCULPT FITNESS CLASS – Lori Woodall – instructor, 308-0746
Classes begin June 2, 2009 and meet every Tuesday & Thursday at 6:30 PM
Price per Class $5.00 or Monthly $30.00 ($10.00 savings)
Please bring light hand weights and a yoga mat for floor work!  This class is a great toning and strengthening class.  It is for all ages and for any fitness level from beginner to advanced.  We start with a warm up and go through each muscle groups targeting them one at a time.  We finish with floor work and a cool-down with stretches. 

CHESS CLASSES
Monday, June 8 classes from 4:00 – 5:00 pm, or 6:00 – 7:00 pm

SUMMER SAMPLER:  Activities for children ages 10 to 15.
Mondays, June 15 through August 3, 8:30 AM to 12:00 Noon
A variety of classes and activities for children ages 10 – 15: piano, guitar, arts and crafts, dance, cooking, chess, knitting, crochet, beading, and Train Appreciation.  Registration form and class fee must be in by June 5th. Class Fee $40.00 for 8 weeks.  To register your child or for information about the class call 962-2356.

LECTURE SERIES - STORY TELLING

Revolutionary War Storytelling by Steve Pearson
Life-long Cowan resident and board member of the Franklin County Historical Society will share some of the things you never read in your text book.  This will be the first in a series of War Storytelling at the Cowan Center for the Arts Theater.  Free admission.

WATERCOLOR - Pat Underwood – instructor
Wednesday, JUNE 3rd, 9:00 am - noon
Students will start from the beginning. You will learn about color, (primary, secondary, intermediate, tint, shade, and complimentary). During the 4 weeks we will cover materials, color mixing, composition, wet on wet, vignette, greeting cards, monochromatic, abstract, still life, and more. Class fee $40.00 (4 weeks) paid with registration. Call 962-2356 for a supply list.

OIL PAINTING – Jennifer Redstreake Geary – instructor
Thursday, JUNE 4th, class time 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Come join this class and learn traditional oil painting techniques from Jennifer, an oil painter at heart. This will be a 4-week class, 2 hours every Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00. Oil painting is a very traditional and ever so versatile painting medium. Painting in oils is often the preferred painting medium for portraiture painting as well as landscape paintings, it allows the artist to work and re-work; continuously blending the oil colours to the desired effect as Oil Paints have a longer curing period than Acrylic Paints & mediums. CLOGGING – Virginia Sawyer and Ashlie Wells - instructors
Monday, JUNE 1st, class time 5:00pm-8:00pm
*Beginner* - The first hour of class is for beginners (child or adult). In this class you will be taught the 8 basic steps of clogging. Class fee $20.00 (4 weeks) paid with registration. This is an ongoing class with new students joining monthly.
*Intermediate* - The last half of class is for child or adult who know the 8 basic steps of clogging. Class fee $20.00 (4 weeks) paid with registration. This is an ongoing class with new students joining monthly. For information call Ashlie at 691-0083.

IRISH STEP DANCING – Denise Miller – instructor, 308-6631
Thursday, JUNE 4th, class time 5:15pm - 6:15pm
Irish Dancing is for most ages (students should know their left from their right). Students will learn basic Irish dancing steps and progress to soft-shoe dances (reel, light jig, and slip jig) before moving to hard-shoe dances. Students will also work on group (ceili) dances. Class fee $20.00 (4 weeks). This class is an ongoing class with new students joining monthly.
